Leadership is acting by example. The very act of leadership is expressed through the leader’s actions – not just what they say. It may take many shapes and forms, but in the context of communication, think of example as the primary way of communicating a message – albeit verbal or non-verbal communication. As the proverb puts it, you have to ‘walk the talk.’
⠀
Remember that you cannot avoid being an example to others because the people who work with you will always observe what you are, what you do, and what you say. ‘A manager will take six months to get to know his staff,’ goes a Japanese maxim, ‘but they will take only six days to get to know him. So by being the best example you can be is being the best leader you can be.
